A Common Reality: Most Seniors Use Vision Correction
Vision changes are extremely common with age. A large study of Medicare beneficiaries found that tens of millions of Americans over 65 rely on eyeglasses for either near or distance vision.
That’s why vision testing isn’t necessarily a barrier—it’s simply a checkpoint to ensure your eyesight meets basic driving standards.
In many states, you don’t even have to take the test at the DMV. Instead, you can:
- Visit your eye doctor beforehand
- Have them complete a vision report form
- Submit the results during your renewal
Some states even allow eye care professionals to send results electronically, helping you skip long lines at the DMV.
They want to make more money , have you take tests more often . I agree as a senior that our eyesight can and will change dramatically as we age I would think most people with problems would take steps to protect themselves and others throu glasses or contacts .
instead of going after seniors for safer roads , maybe making it a requirement to be able to read English?
The current practice has been normal and effective. Why propose a new method or approach? Do you have statistical data to justify this new proposal, or is this simply an attempt to remain relevant while unnecessarily inconveniencing seniors?
The present system is working and should remain in place, unless you have a negative report based on realistic statistics that justifies the proposed change. No senior appreciates unnecessary inconvenience, except where circumstances require it. Please allow seniors to have peace of mind.
Thanks for the heads up about driver license requirements changing as we age. I’m going to try to find out DMV changes before my license comes up for renewal this year on my 78 birthday. Where do I find out DMV rules for license renewal for the state of Missouri?

What are the Texas laws?
How to check N.Y. rules
How to check DMV rules for New York State??
Elected officials must decide, not faceless unelected bureaucrats
All these new rules shall be approved by elected officials. not by faceless unelected bureaucrats
