Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about who we are, how our articles are made, and the questions readers ask us most often.

About Retirees in USA

Who runs Retirees in USA?

Retirees in USA is an independent publication run by Inedit Agency S.R.L., based in Bucharest, Romania. Our editorial team writes for Americans who are retired or getting close, and for the families who help them.

You can read more on our About Us page.

Are you connected to Social Security, Medicare or any government agency?

No. We are not affiliated with the Social Security Administration, Medicare, the IRS or any state agency. For your own benefits, always check SSA.gov, Medicare.gov or IRS.gov directly.

How are your articles written and checked?

Our editorial team picks topics from reader questions and current retirement news, then researches them using government sources, established senior organizations and peer-reviewed research.

Key facts and figures are checked against primary sources before publishing, and we revisit articles when rules or amounts change. Our Editorial Policy explains the full process.

Do you use AI to write articles?

Yes. We use AI tools to help research and draft articles. Every article is then reviewed by our editorial team, and facts are verified against authoritative sources before it goes live.

I found a mistake. How do I report it?

Email contact@retireesinusa.com with “Error Report” in the subject, the article link and what looks wrong. A source for the correct information helps us fix it faster.

Factual errors are corrected and the article’s date is updated. Errors that could affect a reader’s decisions get a visible correction note.

Can you give me personal financial, legal or medical advice?

No. Our articles are general information only and are not financial, tax, legal or medical advice. For decisions about your own situation, talk to a licensed professional. See our Disclaimer for details.

How does the site make money?

We show ads, including ads served by Google, and some articles contain affiliate links, such as Amazon links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we write. Our Advertiser Disclosure explains how this works.

How do I subscribe to the newsletter, or unsubscribe?

Our newsletter is free and comes once a week. Enter your email in the sign-up box at the bottom of any page, and a welcome email will confirm you are on the list.

To stop the emails, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter. One click is all it takes.

How can I contact you?

Email contact@retireesinusa.com or use our Contact page. We usually reply within one to two business days.

Questions readers ask us most

These come from the comments readers leave on our articles. Rules differ by state and change over time, so always confirm with the official source we link.

Will I have to retake my driving test when I get older?

Usually not a full road test. Most states keep the same license for older drivers but may shorten the renewal period, ask for an in-person renewal or require a vision test from a certain age.

Our guide Will You Have to Retake Your Driving Test? covers the common rules. For your state’s exact requirements, find your DMV through USA.gov.

How do I find and apply for the work-from-home jobs you write about?

We describe types of jobs, not specific openings, so we can’t take applications. Search the job title on established job sites or the employer’s own careers page, and be wary of any “job” that asks you to pay upfront.

Start with 5 Work-From-Home Jobs That Need No Computer Skills, and see USA.gov’s guide to avoiding scams.

Why didn’t I get an SSI payment this month?

SSI is paid on the 1st of the month. When the 1st falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment arrives on the last business day before it, so one month shows two deposits and the next shows none.

You haven’t lost anything. Our article Why There’s No SSI Payment in August explains it, and SSA.gov has the official schedule.

Does my state tax Social Security, pensions or 401(k) withdrawals?

It depends on the state, and most states don’t tax Social Security at all. Some tax pensions and retirement account withdrawals, and a few have no income tax.

See 12 States That Won’t Touch Your Pension, 401(k), or Social Security. Check your state’s revenue department for current rules, and IRS Publication 915 for federal tax on benefits.

What age counts as “senior” for store discounts and shopping hours?

There is no single age. Each store sets its own, often 55, 60 or 65, and policies change, so ask at customer service or check the store’s website.

Our list of grocery stores with senior shopping hours is a good place to start.

I feel lonely since retiring or losing my spouse. Where can I find help?

You’re far from alone in feeling this. Local senior centers, volunteering and faith or hobby groups are good first steps, and our guide 10 Ways to Stay Social When You Live Alone has more ideas.

The Eldercare Locator (1-800-677-1116) connects you with local services. If you feel overwhelmed or in crisis, call or text 988 any time.

Can I print an article?

Yes. Use your browser’s Print option, usually under the File menu or by pressing Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac).

The information on this page is general and educational. It is not financial, tax, legal or medical advice.
