The Social Security Administration (SSA) restricts wage earnings for retirees collecting benefits prior to Full Retirement Age.

In 2025, early beneficiaries can earn up to $23,400 annually ($1,950 monthly) before benefits face temporary withholding.

This annual earnings threshold rises to $24,480 in 2026.

For every $2 earned above the annual limit, the agency withholds $1 from your monthly benefits.

A separate, higher threshold applies during the specific calendar year you reach your Full Retirement Age.

That limit is $62,160 in 2025 and climbs to $65,160 in 2026, withholding $1 for every $3 exceeded.

Once you reach Full Retirement Age, all earnings limitations vanish permanently, allowing unlimited income with zero benefit reductions.
